Two prisoners were being readied for execution. They were taken from their holding cells the next morning after spending the night there alone with their last meal. Later in the day, when the prison guards came back to clean up the cell, they found this poem, "The Man in the Mirror", inscribed on the wall of one of the cells. This is what they copied down. The Man in the MirrorIf you get what you want in your struggle for SelfAnd the world makes you king for a dayThen go to the mirror and look at yourselfAnd see what that Man has to say.For it isn't a man's father, mother or wifeWhose judgement upon him must passThe fellow whose verdict counts most in his lifeIs the Man staring back from the glass. He is the fellow to please, never mind all the restFor he is with you clear up to the endAnd you've passed your most dangerous, difficult testIf the Man in the glass is your friend. You can fool the whole world down the path of yearsAnd get pats on the back as you passBut your final reward will be heartache and tearsIf you've cheated the Man in the glass.Cheers! u all! Now please stop slacking, u all!
